                              Place Making Job Description

Dear new Place Makers we are so glad that you chose this group. Place Making is a ton of fun. In groups like Aquaponics have the Aquaponics system to maintain, but with Place Making it is a little more difficult. While you don't have a single system you have the different work spaces that we have built they are,

The Permaculture garden
This is a place that nature does the work for us, but we do give it a little help following these ethics,
Good for the people
Good for the Earth
Share the surplus

The New Native Garden
This is the newest edition to are work space. It is over by the elementary wing. In this garden we are only using native plants to create a work environment we use the systems thinking concept Structure generates behavior.

and the Up Stairs Hallway
This is the space that we use most often for work. I (Owen) toke the measurements and fond out that there is 1982 sq. feet. I did this project because it was said that in older schools like ours 25% of the school was walking space.

                                                                 Thank you,
                                                                          Alana, Eden, Josh and Owen

Place making's mission is to create places out side of the classroom that every one can learn in. Some of these spaces are our new Permaculture garden, which was outside and it was a completely unused space before, and now it is a beautiful garden. The hallway was the second space that we looked at to change. From the information that 25% of older schools are used just for walking, we sought about to change the hallway and make it a learning space At our school there is 1,982 sq feet of hallway just up stairs. We thought that this was wasted space so we decided to use this space as a work space.

School Board Speech

Most teachers have the mental model that outside is just a place for recess, but the case is different at our school. We are in the process of creating an outdoor classroom. For this outdoor classroom, instead of creating an entirely new space, we made an unused space better. This will be a space that everyone is welcome to learn in and be inspired. When we are making this work space, we are thinking about the environment and what it needs. Also, we were looking at the hallway at our school and we have noticed that it has problems. In older schools like Winterhaven, our school, 25% of the school is walking space! We calculated that that is 1,982 sq feet just for walking space upstairs! We want to change that by making the hallway more of a working space and less of a passing space. Also, we want to give a definition of a place. A place is somewhere where people can learn and have fun at the same time and that is what the Place Making green team is all about.
